Because willpower isn't a system, and proximity is. An alarm you can end from bed will always lose to the version of you that just woke up. The Anchor puts the end of your alarm somewhere you have to stand up and walk to, which is the entire product.

Do I need to buy the Anchor to use the app?

Yes. The app is free, and every Anchor comes with an access code that unlocks its features. Without an Anchor there is no code, and nothing for your morning to end at.

Does anything else work in place of the Anchor?

No. The access code ships only with a genuine Step Anchor, and the app is built for that hardware alone. It is what keeps the routine dependable morning after morning.

Do I need a subscription?

No. The app is free to download and free to use indefinitely. There is no premium tier and no feature that gets locked later. You pay once for the hardware, and that is the entire transaction.

Step works with recent iPhone and Android models. The app checks your phone for you during setup and tells you immediately if it isn't supported.

How many snoozes do I get?

You choose the limit during setup. Once you reach it, the snooze option is gone and your alarm ends only at the Anchor. If you would rather have no escape hatch at all, set the limit to zero.
